"You're Real. I know it."

Then, the furry rabbit exclaimed, "He doesn't smell right! He isn't a rabbit at all! He isn't real!"

"I am Real!" said the Velveteen Rabbit. "I am Real! The Boy said so!" And he nearly began to cry.

The Velveteen Rabbit, as well as the Boy, are fully convinced that it is a real creature. Yet, their definition of the "real" is incomplete, given two factors: 1. their definition does not match up with society's view of the concept, and 2. the lacking physical capacities of the rabbit demonstrate that it does not meet the requirements for being a "real" rabbit.

Therefore, self-pereception is only one component of achieving "realness," and cannot make a being "real" solely by itself.
